The 74th Cheatham County Fair will open at the Cheatham County Fairgrounds for five days starting today after a one-year absence last year due to the pandemic.
According to Cheatham County Fair Association President D’Andrea Felts, the fair, though having traditional activities and amusement rides, is primarily an event that displays the agriculture in Cheatham County: tobacco, hemp, barley, hay, fruits and vegetables.
Local groups such as 4-H, honey clubs, home economics organizations, and Family Community Education groups will showcase their arts and crafts there also.
The fair works in cooperation with the local 4-H chapter, The University of Tennessee Extension Institute of Agriculture, and The Tennessee State Cooperative Extension. Felts said that proceeds from the fair go towards prizes for those competing in fair events.
Felts said the biggest draws to the fair this year are the Chase Matthews concert on Wednesday, July 28 and The Mud Bog competition on Saturday, July 31.
Matthews is a Cheatham County musician who recently signed a record deal, Felts said.
Because of COVID-19, this year’s fair will have no baking or livestock competitions. There are no mask or social distancing requirements for people attending the fair, Felts said.
