Former Westmoreland teacher charged with statutory rape

A former Sumner County school teacher has been indicted by a grand jury and is now facing multiple charges, including aggravated statutory rape.

The Sumner County Sheriff’s Office received a call on July 18, with the complainant stating that her 16-year-old son was receiving Snapchat messages from Carrie Elizabeth Norman, 42 of Westmoreland.

According to a press release from the sheriff’s office, during the Snapchat conversation, Norman reportedly offered money to the juvenile in exchange for sex on at least one occasion.

As part of the investigation, it was also discovered there was possibly a second 16-year-old male juvenile victim involved.

During an interview, detectives observed a text message between the 16-year-old and Norman, the release states.

In the text thread, Norman offers money to the juvenile in exchange for sex on at least one occasion.

In addition, detectives learned that Norman had sent the 16-year-old male juvenile nude photographs on two occasions.

Norman was indicted on two counts of solicitation of a minor, aggravated statutory rape and two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor by electronic means.

She was booked into the Sumner County Jail on Tuesday, Aug. 10. Her bond was set at $50,000.

Norman’s first court date is scheduled for today.

According to Jeremy Johnson, spokesperson for Sumner County Schools, Norman retired in May of 2020, prior to these incidents.
