Freeman Recovery Center, an alcohol and drug treatment program founded by Burns native Shawn Baker in 2012, will be opening a facility at the former Dickson Food Stamps Office at 250 State St. in Dickson.

Freeman already has a main Dickson location in the downtown area. The second location is expected to be licensed by the end of the year.

The business added 28 licensed treatment beds to its Burns location this month.

According to Baker, the State Street building currently under renovation will house administration, accounting, human resources, partial hospitalization and day treatment, intensive outpatient, and long-term care counseling.

The 10,000 square-foot Burns facility, located at the former home of King’s Court restaurant at 1615 Highway 96, offers inpatient and residential detox vocation services.

Freeman provides overnight services for 181 people and outpatient services for 80-100 people a day.

According to a report on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as of June 2020, 13% of Americans reported either starting or increasing substance use in order to cope with stress and anxiety from the pandemic.

Supervisor of Operations Brian Lunn, a former Freeman patient, said he shares Baker’s vision for providing Dickson County residents with comprehensive, compassionate local treatment options.

Lunn was in seven treatment centers before coming to Freeman.

“What set Freeman apart for me was the understanding and involvement. I didn’t feel like a number. Leadership is very involved. They cared about me and wanted me to care about me,” Lunn said.

Freeman Recovery Center has 24 locations in Burns, Dickson and Fairview.
