U.S. Representative John Rose (TN-6) recently named Ian Hooper from Pope John Paul II High School as the winner of the 2021 Congressional Art Competition for Tennessee’s Sixth District.

The artwork is inspired by Ian’s work with a ministry program aimed at aiding the homeless population. Through that work, Ian met John Amos who has lived on the streets for more than 30 years.

Ian had the special opportunity to hear about the continuous struggles and the lessons learned from those people he and others assisted through the ministry program; most notably, Mr. Amos.

“The young artists of Middle Tennessee submitted creative and impressive artwork that showcased just how talented our high school students are,” said Rose. “Congratulations, Ian, on your winning entry, and I look forward to seeing your artwork displayed in the U.S. Capitol building.”

Each spring, the House of Representatives and the Congressional Institute sponsor a high school art competition in each congressional district across the country as an opportunity for high school students to showcase their talents. Students from across Middle Tennessee submitted their artwork for the competition, and local art professionals judged the pieces. The winning artwork will be displayed for one year in Cannon Hall in the United States Capitol.

U.S. Representative John Rose is currently serving his second term representing Tennessee’s Sixth Congressional District and resides in Cookeville with his wife, Chelsea, and their two sons, Guy and Sam. The Sixth District includes Cannon, Clay, Coffee, Cumberland, DeKalb, Fentress, Jackson, Macon, Overton, Pickett, Putnam, Robertson, Smith, Sumner, Trousdale, White, and Wilson counties as well as portions of Cheatham and Van Buren counties. Representative Rose is an eighth-generation farmer, small business owner, and attorney, and currently serves on the Financial Services Committee.
