Homicide Unit detectives on Tuesday evening charged Jenara Higgins, 44, with the March 21 slaying of Linda McMurray, 59, who was shot while in the back seat of a car on Fain Street.
Ballistics testing shows that shell casings from the homicide matched those from a December 2020 shooting outside a residence on Fain Street in which a 29-year-old woman was wounded. An arrest warrant charging Higgins with aggravated assault was issued on Dec. 16, 2020. He was arrested in that case Tuesday and taken to police headquarters, where he implicated himself in the McMurray homicide during an interview with Detective Charles Duke and Sgt. Byron DeWalt.
McMurray was fatally shot after her son and his girlfriend were in a physical dispute with other people on Fain Street.
Higgins is being held without bond pending a hearing.
