If you have been thinking about joining the Middle Tennessee YMCA, now is the time because there is a deal between Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve in which the Y is waiving the fee usually charged at the time you join.

“Middle Tennesseans have a great chance to give themselves the gift of good health and save this holiday season,” said Jessica Fain, the chief strategy officer for the Y, who said membership joining fees would normally be as much as $125 depending on what type of membership you choose.

Once you join, monthly membership rates range from $52 for an individual to $116 a month for households with two adults plus children.

Fain said there are also some higher rate options for more than two adults in the same household, but the “Two Plus” (two adults plus children) is by far the most common type of membership for households with children.

Joining the YMCA can be a great deal because most memberships provide access to all 14 Midstate YMCA locations, most of which are open seven days a week with indoor and outdoor pools, an array of fitness equipment, classes for children and adults, time in the gymnasiums and more fitness resources.

The standard membership includes unlimited group exercise classes, supervised child care while you work out, and no annual contracts.

Classes vary at the locations, but offerings include yoga, Pilates, indoor cycling, rowing, aquatics, boot camps and kids cardio blast. And the membership even comes with a 30-day money back guarantee.

There is also a national reciprocal arrangement in which members can visit many of the hundreds of YMCAs around the country as a perk of their Middle Tennessee Y membership. These reciprocals vary by location, but access can be a great resource when you are traveling.

Fain said you can join the Middle Tennessee YMCA by going to trytheY.com or visit any local YMCA location to redeem this offer of the waived fee.

“This offer represents a savings of up to $125, depending on membership type. Joining fees differ based on membership type — number of adults on a unit, children, no children, etc.,” she said.

The Middle Tennessee YMCA has about 58,000 household members, accounting for about 100,000 adults and children.

Fain said the Y makes promotional offers — like waiving of the joining fee — several times a year. Fain said this Dec. 24-31 weeklong offer targets prospective members who are making New Year’s resolutions to get fit.

The YMCA website says, “From low-impact exercise, stretching and strength training to indoor cycling, yoga and aquatics classes, the Y has an option to help you reach your health and wellness goals.”
