There are three things that I love about Musicians Corner:

• This festival is a great chance to hear all kinds of music and maybe even get an introduction to some genres with which you may not have previously been familiar. The lineup includes everything from soul and rock to R&B, blues, pop and country. The sets range in length from 25 to 45 minutes, so if you happen on something that doesn’t appeal to you, it won’t last long.

• The festival is a great opportunity to get your kiddos outside for some music and some kid-friendly entertainment. Kidsville is a big part of Musicians Corner, offering lawn games, scavenger hunts, crafts, bilingual storytimes and musical meet and greets with musicians.

• And the third thing that makes Musicians Corner so lovable is that it and all of its events are free. You just show up and enjoy the show(s).

This Centennial Park lawn party-ish festival is making a comeback this weekend with a three-day run that will showcase a variety of performers, artisan vendors, food trucks, Kidsville fun and adult drinks.

It will take place 5-9 p.m. Friday and noon to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday (June 11-13) in the Musicians Corner area, which is at the southwest corner of Centennial Park, just off West End.

“We’re excited to return to Centennial Park with free live music events for the Nashville community,” said Justin Branam, program director for Musicians Corner. “It’s been a rough year for live music, artists and our community, and we look forward to finally gathering together again at Musicians Corner this weekend.”

This weekend’s performers include: Our Native Daughters and Birds of Chicago member Allison Russell, pop soul sensation the New Respects, Southern folklorist and blueswoman Adia Victoria, soul revivalist Jason Eskridge, indie-rock duo Vacation Manor, rock and roots blues duo Smooth Hound Smith and contemporary pop virtuoso Jillette Johnson.

This is a perfect event for families or a get-together with friends, or even a solo outing. You just you bring your own chair to enjoy the music, and you can even bring a picnic or snacks. Dogs (on leashes) are welcome, too!

And if you can’t make it this weekend, mark your calendar for the Musicians Corner September Sundown series, which will have more dates than in years past.

That series will take place with music and family fun each Thursday and Friday evening in September. Plus there will be a special three-day weekend Sept. 23-25 in conjunction with AmericanaFest.

Musicians Corner has been taking place in Centennial Park since 2010. Like so many other music events, it went completely digital in 2020 due to COVID-19. So this weekend’s festival is the first in-person return of the festival.

Over the years, more than 1,500 artists have been showcased on the Musicians Corner stage, including legendary artists Emmylou Harris, Chris Stapleton, the Blind Boys of Alabama, Vince Gill and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band.
