A Nashville man who was punched outside of a Hermitage bar Aug. 23 and remained comatose after the attack died Sept. 6, and the apparent attacker’s charges could be upgraded.
According to Metro Nashville police, Jamie Mitchell, 52, was punched and knocked to the ground the night of Aug. 23 outside of Rebar by the Dam bar on Blackwood Drive and later died Sept. 6. Police said Mitchell remained in a comatose state after the attack.
Police said Brian Vantassel, 52, was charged Aug. 24 with felony aggravated assault, after detectives watched surveillance video from the bar.
Vantassel remained free on $25,000 bond, but detectives contacted the district attorney’s office and could upgrade the charge after Mitchell died. Vantassel will appear Sept. 17 in general sessions court.
