District Attorney Glenn Funk has been reelected to a second term.

With 172 of the 179 precincts reporting as of 10 p.m. Tuesday, Funk had 43% (18,084) of the vote.

Opponent Sara Beth Myers had 40% (16,659) of the vote, and P. Danielle Nellis had 17% (6,902) of the vote.

Although Tuesday’s vote was only the Democratic primary, there was no qualified Republican candidate on the ballot. Funk will be running unopposed in the August election.

Myers conceded around 9 p.m.

“I’m proud of how we ran this campaign. I proposed major reforms that I hope the administration will incorporate for the safety of our city. I love Nashville and I will continue to serve this city however I can,” Myers said in a statement.

Around 9:30 p.m., Funk entered Winners Bar & Grill in Midtown to chants of “We want the Funk” backed by a funk band. Dozens of supporters mingled, some wearing shirts that said “Glenn gives a Funk about justice.”

“This reelection is not just about Glenn Funk,” said Funk, who was first elected DA in 2014.

In his comments, Funk said public safety is the most important thing and that does not just mean being successful on big cases. It also means supporting victims “relentlessly” and making sure people are not unfairly incarcerated, he added.

“What we are going to do going forward is we are going to work to make Nashville an even safer, better, more inclusive city,” Funk said. “I really believe that the criminal justice system can bring us together by making sure that we love each other and support each other.”
