The Donelson Christmas tree lighting ceremony took place Dec. 13 at 4 p.m. at the Donelson Plaza renovation project.

It was a bit different this year with a small crowd due to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. District 15 Metro Councilman Jeff Syracuse led the ceremony. The event was also streamed live on the Hip Donelson Facebook page.

“It’s a different kind of tree lighting for a couple reasons,” Syracuse said. “For safety, we hosted the event virtually, and also the location begins a new era as we begin to utilize our new civic space in front of where the new library will be.”

Syracuse encouraged people to consider driving by and drop off an unwrapped toy for the Metro Police Christmas Charities started by Joe Casey. Those who donated a toy received a coupon for a complimentary bacon popcorn dish at Homegrown Taproom and Kitchen.

Those who helped make the Christmas tree addition to Donelson possible were District 15 beautification commissioner Michele Mazzu, Crye-Leike Realtors, Hip Donelson, the Donelson Gateway Project, JVI Secret Gardens and Donelson Café and Catering.
