The McGavock High School marching band was named grand champion Oct. 12 at the Vanderbilt Marching Invitational at Vanderbilt Stadium in Nashville.
With an 84.1, McGavock had the top score of the day and beat out reserve grand champion Beaver Creek. The Raiders’ marching band also finished atop the leader board, defeating Brentwood, which came in second with a 75.2. Third went to Shelbyville with a 64.5, and Gallatin finished fourth with a 64.1.
McGavock was also named top drum major in the competition.
McGavock played host to its own Music City Invitational on Oct. 19. The band also plans to compete at the Austin Peay Mid-South Invitational on Oct. 26 before the season culminates Nov. 2 at the Contest of Champions at Middle Tennessee State University.
