A Nashville woman was among six arrested in Atlanta on Saturday on rioting charges during a protest that turned violent.
Nadja Geir, 24, was arrested on eight charges, including arson and domestic terrorism, for her part in the riot.
Police Chief Darin Schierbaum said a protest started around 5 p.m., and police were deployed to protect their right to protest. A group in the crowd started breaking windows and attacking police cars in the area.
No officers or citizens were injured.
The six individuals, only one of whom was from Georgia, used the First Amendment as a “shield of illegal activity,” Schierbaum said.
According to the Associated Press, the protest stemmed from the death of an activist who was shot by law enforcement last Wednesday. Officials said the activist had shot a state trooper.
