A small crowd gathered last Monday to watch a long-standing Donelson hangout get pulled to pieces.

Construction crews picked the former Baskin-Robbins building at 2510 Lebanon Pike down to the studs to make way for its newest resident.

“We are starting the demolition of the old Baskin-Robbins place to be replaced with a Take 5 Oil Change,” said Randy Gentry with Robert S. Biscan Construction Co. “It’s a smaller, little bit more high-tech lube place than some of the others around.”

According to the Take 5 Oil Change website, customers can have their oil and filters changed in minutes, while they sit comfortably in their cars. Service does not require an appointment.

Many residents in the area were sad to see Baskin-Robbins go. The business had operated at the location since the early 1990s.

“The Baskin-Robbins store in Donelson closed on Dec. 15 due to loss of lease, as the landlord signed a new deal to build another business in its place. Demolition at the Donelson Baskin-Robbins store began [last Monday]. Our Baskin-Robbins franchisee is actively looking for another store site, however, its new location is to be determined. The Baskin-Robbins Donelson store has been at this location since 1993, and we were very disappointed to lose the lease,” said a Baskin-Robbins spokesperson in a written statement.

Construction on the new Take 5 Oil Change is expected to take about four months to complete.
