WATERTOWN—Both the Donelson Christian Academy boys and girls’ teams took losses in the opening round of the AFLAC Watertown Christmas Tournament last Thursday as the boys fell 62-52 to Cookeville, and the girls lost 42-20 to Westmoreland.

The Wildcats (7-2) took an early 12-9 lead in the first period, but Cookeville stormed back on a 23-10 run in the second to take a 32-22 lead at the half. Donelson Christian outscored Cookeville 16-15 in the third and matched the Cavaliers 15-15 in the fourth, but the Cookeville lead was too much to overcome.

Ben Singer led the Wildcats with 16 points, followed by Riley Stanton with 10.

In the Lady Wildcats’ afternoon game, Westmoreland jumped out to a 12-1 lead in the first and extended its lead to 22-8 at the half. The Lady Eagles went on a 13-3 run in the third to extend their lead to 35-11. Donelson Christian (5-4) outscored Westmoreland 9-8 in the fourth, but the damage was already done.

The tournament continued through Saturday. The Lady Wildcats took on Moore County on Friday afternoon, while the Wildcats also faced Moore County on Friday night. Due to early Christmas deadlines, full results from the remainder of the tournament will be featured in next week’s Main Street Nashville-East.
