Hendersonville blanks McGavock

HENDERSONVILLE – The Lady Commandos soccer team had little trouble in their second District 10-AAA soccer game of the season Sept. 10, blanking the visiting McGavock Lady Raiders 9-0 in just 44 minutes.

Liza Sircy, Cookie Morgan and Georgia Perry each scored two goals for the Lady Commandos, while Teagan Frank led the team in assists with three and one goal scored.

Anabelle Proctor and Jaclyn Jarrett also scored goals for the Lady Commandos.

The win improves Hendersonville to 3-1-3 overall on the season and 2-0 in league play.

For the McGavock Lady Raiders, the loss drops coach Wynn Hodge’s team to 2-2-1.

“We are pretty inconsistent right now because we are so young across the board,” Hodge said. “There is a lot of learning going on right now.”

One area of improvement coach Wynn wants to see his girls take strides in is building from the back, and controlling possession more.

“There is a lot of movement on the ball right now, and they know what to do when they have the ball at their feet. They just don’t really know what to do when they don’t have the ball,” Hodge said. “We are trying to learn that and build from the back up.”

“The most important thing is yes we get the win but also that we come away with no injuries,” Hendersonville head coach Russ Plummer said of the first two district wins over Hunters Lane and McGavock. “We need to continue to take care of each game, try and get better, and not concern ourselves with the goal differential.”

The Lady Commandos have played a daunting schedule so far this season, with games against Father Ryan, Independence, Houston, Bearden and Collierville.

“I think our schedule has been pretty good,” Plummer said. “They are all at one point in the top five of their respective ranks. I don’t think you can get much tougher than that. I think we have made a nice progression, but we just got to keep getting better.”

In those five matches, the Lady Commandos are 1-1-3 with the lone victory coming nine days ago against Collierville in the Bearden Tournament.

“I like the direction we are going,” Plummer said. “I was a little concerned with having nine days off. We came out a little stagnant tonight, but after the first five or six minutes we got our feet underneath us a little bit and did some nice things.”

Gallatin 7, McGavock 0

The Lady Raiders took a 7-0 loss to Gallatin on Sept. 12 in district play at home.

Gallatin improved to 7-3 and 4-0 in district play with the win.

The Lady Raiders will travel to Station Camp on Sept. 17.
