DCA 48, Harding Academy 0

The Donelson Christian Academy defense played lights out football against Harding Academy Friday night. The Wildcat defense forced four turnovers and held Harding Academy to -26 yards of total offense, including -33 yards rushing, in the easy 48-0 shutout win.

The defense forced three Lion fumbles and defensive back Jacob Cook intercepted quarterback Maddox Crawford and returned it 28 yards for a score in the non-region win.

“Having just three days to prepare for the triple option takes some discipline and our guys lined up and played assignment football and were successful and I’m so proud of the effort,” DCA head coach Paul Wade said.

Linebacker Brady Russell led the defense with eight tackles, while Cook also forced a fumble and defensive lineman Nolan Forsha recovered two fumbles for the victors as the Wildcats led 35-0 at the half.

The DCA offense started quick as three plays after taking the opening kickoff, sophomore running back Ashton Jones sprinted 40 yards for a score to give the Wildcats an early 7-0 lead.

DCA then stopped the Harding Academy triple option offense and took a 14-0 lead as quarterback Bradford Gaines connected with wide receiver Dayton Sneed for a 35-yard touchdown to up the Wildcat lead to 14-0.

After another defensive stop, Jones scored his second touchdown of the game on the first play of the second quarter, this time from eight yards out for a 21-0 lead.

Jones and Gaines led the way for the Wildcats on offense as Jones rushed for 123 yards on just six carries (20.5 yards per carry average) and scored three touchdowns while Gaines completed five of six passes for 111 yards and two touchdowns on the night. Sneed led the Wildcat receivers with three catches for 69 yards and two scores.

“I proud of the offensive line because anytime you average 11 yards a carry you’re going to have a good night and that also opens up the play action game which was effective tonight,” Wade said.
