Lakewood Theatre company actors Emily Colquette (short skirt) Katelyn Elvington (long dress) and Ryan Arbuckle rehearse the heartfelt play “Gift of the Magi” prior to the three weekend showing. The first weekend showing was Dec. 3-5.

A popular Christmas classic love story is on tap in Old Hickory the next two weekends to ring in holiday cheer and provide a live production.

Lakewood Theatre Company will take to the stage Dec. 10-12, and Dec. 17-19 at the Lakewood Theatre. Friday and Saturday shows begin at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2:30 p.m. John Carpenter is director for the play that is a sentimental production often acted during this season. The play is based on the story by O. Henry.

Carpenter said the story is about James and Della Dillingham Young, a young couple who, despite their poverty, individually resolve to give each other an elegant gift on Christmas Eve. Della sells her beautiful long hair in order to buy a platinum fob chain for Jim’s gold watch and Jim sells his gold watch for beautiful hair combs for Della’s hair.

Carolers will sing before the show and during intermission.

Doors open three minutes prior to the show. Email lakewoodtheatreco@gmail.com to reserve seats. Lakewood Theatre Company is located at 2211 Old Hickory Blvd.
